A Weekend In The Macedon Ranges

    Stay:

    The Whitehouse Daylesford

Opened by Lynda Gardner, a serial accommodation owner, this stunning house is perfect for couple or bigger groups. It’s rustic charm at it’s best, with all the creature comforts you could want. Styled to perfection and as cosy and it is perfect for entertaining, The Whitehouse is where you’ll want to stay. We spoke with Lynda about the origins of this gorgeous accommodation. When did you open?Gosh I am hopeless with dates, however, its around 13 years now….

What inspired you to get into the accommodation business?

It started as a dream holiday home, thinking it would be the perfect escape from Melbourne, until I realised very quickly it was not going to be a cheap renovation. So to counter-balance my spending, I decided to rent it out to other holiday makers for the times I could not be there. It then snowballed and became a serious business of making it a very beautiful, bespoke and unique property that since opening has been booked out year after year and an incredibly popular place to stay even after all this time. It’s something I am very proud of.

What was the vision behind The White House?

It’s an original 1850s house and I wanted to keep it very rustic and to true it’s roots. Replacing all I could with salvaged and sourced finds, such as old

floor boards rather than new and a recycled cast iron bath and sinks, meant that I could really keep bones and feel of the original house. The, I filled it to the brim with my collections from treasured finds and heirloom pieces that have been in the family for years. It’s a very homely home and I really think that is something very special for everyone who stays.

    Eat:

    Sault

Set on a stunning estate overlooking lavender fields, Sault offers a true paddock to plate experience. The venue is also well known for it’s incredible weddings.

    Turpins Falls

These falls cascade down over an incredible, huge semi-circular wall of rock into a large pool of water below making for the perfect spot for a swim. A steep but short descent to the location makes for a well earned picnic lunch when you reach this gem.
